what we do
Capacity Building
We equip our staff with the skills that enable them to enhance the efficiency of their work. We train on human rights norms, current development priorities and resource mobilisation. They then oversee and teach beneficiaries at ICALIP centres.
Education
We work at grassroots level to sensitise and empower women on a range of human rights and development issues. Through workshops and communications, we educate on the topics of gender-based violence, peace building and leadership, adult literacy and ICT, environmental protection, disease prevention and health awareness, natural resource management and economic justice; tackling taboo, stigmatised issue areas and enhancing the livelihoods and knowledge of local people.
Partnership
We work in alliance with the local community to increase attendance and provide services that are relevant to the beneficiaries. We promote information sharing, partnership building and expertise at local and national level to influence policy, encourage activism and achieve human rights and development objectives.
Study, Research & Documentation
We monitor research and document human rights violations and neglect of basic developments needs (education, health and environment) through the publication of reports and the formation of partnerships.
Statelessness and Migration
Conscience International work to promote the fight to eradicate statelessness in Sierra Leone. The fight to end statelessness can only be successful if concerted efforts and synergies from different actors are put on deck in the interest of eradicating statelessness by 2024, then the expected impact can be realized. It is very clear that statelessness undermines fundamental human right as it’s’ already affects more than 10 million people across the globe. Statelessness have an impact in the lives of individuals or community of persons. Tensions and conflicts may arise where groups of people are denied access to nationality rights and are not afforded maximum standard of treatment.
In fulfillment of The 1954 convention which provide protection of status relating to stateless persons and the 1961 convention which also talked about the reduction of statelessness and other international instructions, treaties and recommendations mandating state parties to accede to, for ratification and domestication into national legislation, Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Internal affairs and other relevant partners including civil society and the Media has tremendously played a pivotal role in response to cube statelessness and promote the right to Nationality through the support of United National High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Conscience International also work on migration, though not rampant in Sierra Leone, but CISL has position its' self to tarcle migration issues
